Fanfiction... Oh God.

So, I just have to say...
Fanfiction gets a pretty bad wrap, I know.
But as a writer (no, I'm not twelve and writing about unrealistic hookups that happen magically after someone meets...), I just have to say that I love it.
I'm able to creatively use Fanfiction as an outlet. In the real world, you can't publish your own spin-off of a movie or of someone's book.
On Fanfiction, the possibilities are endless.
So far I've only written two separate Fanifction stories revolving around the Rachel McAdams / Cillian Murphy movie called Red Eye, but it's been amazing. I've been working on my own novels, but it's great to have some constructive feedback from some of the readers (and by some, I mean, those who take the time to actually appreciate the story for what it is, not, "Why aren't the kissing yet?"). My first story has actually broken off into a trilogy. In my mind, that's a major success. They are the lengths of small novels and to me that equals some serious pride. Plus, they have gained an enormous following. In the real world, I would have probably gotten sued.
I can write and nobody will know who I am. I am anonymous. If I write the most ignorant thing anybody has ever seen, no one will know it was me testing out something new. I can experiment.
I know that a lot of Fanfiction is written by those twelve-year-olds wishing that they were characters in the movies / books (and often insert themselves in via "Original Characters"), but there are actually a large group of very talented writers submitting works for Fanfiction.
I'm proud (and maybe tooting my own horn, here) to say that I am one of them.
I just love being able to do something amazing with the little side-thoughts I have while watching a movie.
Not many people care. But I do. and I love it.
Just saying.
