Gwen Stefani - Because She's Worth It!

I got to see this thanks to my sister and cocoperez. Gwen Stefani has joined L'Oreal Paris as the new face of their Infallible Le Rouge lip colour, which is perfect for her, or rather she is perfect for the advert campaign! In the background there is the classic Hollaback Girl, by Gwen herself.

Thought I'd share this with you, because I am a massive fan of hers and let's face it, she makes "because we're worth it" sound badass, take a peek!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 11

Another song from Katy Perry, I suppose I'm in love with her album Teenage Dream, this song really reminds me of a friend at the moment, I think she's going through this phase, so this one is for her. I give you, The One That Got Away, enjoy!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 10

One of my favourite artists of all time. I really respect her for what she does, how she does it, and the way she voices her opinions through her music. I often get emotional at her lyrics, and her songs always remind me of a point in my life which probably makes me feel the words she sings more. This song is no different. I think a lot of people can relate to this track. I give you, P!nk - Perfect, enjoy!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 9

This track is such a tune! I give you Jessie J - Do It Like A Dude, enjoy!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 8

I actually walked into my sister's room this morning and she was playing this, and I'd forgotten all about how much I love this track, and this band for that matter! I give you, The Offspring - I Want You Bad, enjoy!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 7

An old song I adore, I give you, No Doubt - Don't Speak, enjoy!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 6

Next up is a track I think is quite sweet, I give you, Michael Jackson & Akon - Hold My Hand, enjoy!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 5

Next up is a song from an artist who I think has a beautiful voice, I hope you appreciate this song as much as I do, I give you, Bruno Mars - Grenade, enjoy!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 4

Fourth up, now I've already warned you some artists might have more than one mention and this artist deserves another. This song I can't help but get up and dance to. I give you, Katy Perry - Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), enjoy!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 3

Third up is a track by Kate Voegele, who I fell in love with thanks to One Tree Hill. I can really relate to this song sometimes, when the world's weight is on my shoulders I do feel like I, too, am simply 'just surviving', I give you, Sweet Silver Lining, enjoy!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 2

Second up is a track from Katy Perry, even though I've never felt like a plastic bag, I really do love this song, I give you, Firework, enjoy!

Soundtrack To My Month Of January - Track 1

Not going to lie to you guys, I've been busy with exams like I said I would be, so instead of doing Soundtrack To My Day, I figured I would do, Soundtrack To My Month. I've been listening to mainly albums from a few artists so I shall post up a few songs from the same artists, but their songs are totally worth listening to.

First up is.. possibly one of my favourite from Kings Of Leon's new album, I give you, Pyro, enjoy!

The Art of Speech

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
- First Amendment to the United States Constitution

When I began compartmentalizing my ideas and goals in regards to writing, it was done so with the intent, knowledge, and support that I could theoretically write whatever the fuck I wanted to write, and not have to worry much about criticism because, in all respects, writing isn’t always done to convene the traits of the real identity of the author.

In fact, my High School English teacher, Mr. Duffy, always encouraged me to work on my scribe however I feel, and if people couldn’t accept what I presented in word, that it would be their loss, not mine. After researching and reading as much as possible of respected works with suggestive content, I came to the conclusion that colorful language was just that, colorful.

I think back to the first time I watched The Wizard of Oz, and how dull the opening segment of the film was with that grainy look without color; and then in contrast how amazing the blast of color was when Dorothy landed in Oz. I was used to color on television and movies, but seeing the sudden adjustment and transition in a single film, in a time where color in film was very rare, had a very sudden impact on my perspective. It also helps to point out the content of the film abruptly becomes very suggestive once in the imaginary land of Oz.

My writing, too, is very suggestive and colorful; but I scribe my speech and narrative with colorful language and suggestive content all in the name of art. Words are words, and how we use them can change the entire impact of the segment of speech we’re focusing on. I’ve always believed no word is off limits, only the content in which those words are being used. At times the phrase, “fuck you, you jackoff!” will be used by myself, and that, is a very ugly quote. However, the sporadic placement of “fuck”, “shit”, “bitch”, “motherfucker”, “asshole”, etc. by myself are done so in the hopes that the audience actually settles a bit in knowing that I’m being casual, and presenting you to see my speech in the light that I use it… to simply break away from utter seriousness and focus relentlessly on the fact that I’m solely speaking, and perhaps even just using the terms as attention getters.

Believe it or not, even if your initial impression is more negative than positive, you’re attention has been grabbed by me. Sure, some of you suddenly lose interest in the topic at hand, maybe even never open another of my works again, however, I had your attention enough for that moment to enable you to make a decision of whether or not my words have any credence whatsoever.

But I tell you truthfully, my colorful and suggestive vocabulary is very rarely used in effect to disturb my readers. I use the language I use to convey more emotion to my points. There is nothing foul about foul language until the intent of that language is harmful; and no, teaching your children “curse”-words is not harmful, or unbiblical. To go against the God with foul language is for that language to be foul. Using those words is not a foul act, but intending for those words to be harmful, is a foul act.

I want nothing more than my freedom of speech. I ask that those who read my work please do so with the wisdom in mind that my language is simply colorful, not hateful (not always, at least). We do not live in a world where color is bad; on the contrary, color is beautiful, color is reality. It is the colorblind who struggle to appreciate the beauty color presents us with everyday, and it is the colorblind who fail to see color for the art that it really is. Only, with language, seeing color is a choice, and I implore you make the choice to see the art of color, and not ignore the beauty of the way we can paint these colorful portraits.

Happy Birthday Aaliyah

I'm hoping those of you reading this will remember her or at least know of her, and that those of you who were too young to remember her, have at least been told about her or heard one of her tracks. For those of you that don't know, she was known as the Princess of R&B, and today would have been her 32nd birthday.

When I was growing up she was one of my favourite artists and I remember the day I found out she had died. I was sitting in the same spot I am now, and my sister came in having heard it on the radio and told us - my mum was beside me. There was great hope for her, and it's a shame her eagerness cost her what would have been a remarkable life.

To commemorate her birth, life and career I think it's appropriate that one of her songs be my track of the day today. It's one of my all time favourites and it's a shame that it was after filming this video that she passed away but I'm grateful that the final one, was a good one.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you.. More Than A Woman - Aaliyah, rest in peace, BabyGirl!

XXMI

At the end of the year or at the start of a new one it’s expected that one must reflect on the year that has past and focus on how they’ll improve on themselves or their lives. I wish I could say I’m any different but I like to take this time to think and reflect too.

I know this might sound like a get out clause but I think my year will really start at the beginning of February. You see, as a university student, my life revolves around the academic year and semesters. My second semester of my second year will start at the end of January. Until then I’ll mainly keep doing what I’m doing as I have exams to revise for and making any giant pledges would be depressing as I know I wouldn’t be able to keep them.

I’ve had an amazing year, it’s gone by too quickly and I wish I savoured some of the moments more, but one shouldn’t dwell on the past. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with my friends - making new friends, and making stronger bonds with old friends. I enjoyed the result I got at the end of what was generally a stressful first year at university, and I hope I can make myself proud, as well as those supporting me, this year. I realised I’m good at my job this year, and that made me happy. And meeting people who are good colleagues and even greater friends really topped off that feeling.

I went on holiday this year, mainly in my own country, but sometimes it’s not where you go, it’s the companionship that goes with you that counts. I had the pleasure of spending time with a woman who I grew to adore, who told great stories and who I will greatly miss and who will creep into my mind every so often. I had the pleasure of spending time with someone I love, someone who I will continue to love and care about this year.

I’m also grateful to still have my parents and sister at the start of this year. Last year so many people lost those closest to them, and I hope I will spend time with those I love and continue to appreciate them.

All in all, I count myself lucky for the year I did have, and it’s nice to know that I have people around me who care about me and think as highly of me as I do them. They’re the people who I know will get me through 2011, and the ups and downs that I’m bound to go through.

I’ve got many resolutions that I hope to keep. Most of which are to make my university life easier and take some of the pressure off from my life as a whole. As well as blogging more as I know I’ve made promises I’ve not kept but hopefully that’ll improve once I organise myself and make more time for everything including my hobbies. I won’t go into all my resolution because I’d hate to bore you all more than I have.

So, to round this up, I want to wish you all a very happy and healthy year. I hope all your dreams and aspirations come true and that 2011 lives up to your expectations.

Also, no one puts on a New Year’s party like London, baby!
