Porn industry mulls leaving LA if condoms required - Yahoo! News

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Some of the most prominent purveyors of porn say they'll start packing up their sex toys and abandoning the nation's porn capital if authorities carry through with a nascent effort to police adult film sets and order that every actor be outfitted with a condom.

That effort took a serious leap forward Tuesday when the Los Angeles city council voted 9-1 to grant final approval to an ordinance that would deny film permits to producers who do not comply with the condom requirement. The measure now goes to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for approval.

Before the measure can take effect, however, the council has called for the creation of a committee of police officials, the city attorney, state health officials and others to determine how it might be enforced.

This is interesting. They're planning on policing porn to ensure condoms are being used on set if this bill passes. The entire industry is likely to leave LA if this passes, which would ultimately cost the city, county, and state millions of dollars.

While it's commendable to promote safe-sex, the porn industry does have a good record of also promoting testing, but you can't always get immediate results for all diseases, and outbreaks, especially a huge incident this past summer, have occurred. But the idea of using condoms also doesn't solve everything, and some diseases can still be passed through oral sex, and there's not always a safety measure to prevent fluid exchange that way.

This also doesn't exactly have a direct relation on home results either. So do they next have some law enforced where police can raid homes when they suspect someone is having sex out of wedlock without condoms to hand out fines and/or arrest people?

Porn is an industry dedicated to taboo, and making unprotected sex even more taboo will only bolster its views and purchases.

But we condone safe sex. Leave a comment with your thoughts.
